Fusion

In a fusion reaction, two light atomic nuclei fuse together to form heavier ones, as is shown in the figure. The fusion process releases a large amount of energy, which is the energy source of the sun and the stars.

Fusion has some key features which make it an attractive option in a future energy mix: the fusion process is inherently safe; waste which will not be a burden for future generations; no emission of greenhouse gases; and the capacity for large scale energy production.
